Mechanical Repair Services
DMS is a traditional machine shop in that our machines are primarily manual and require a high
degree of experience and skill in the machinist. Our abilities in providing mechanical repair
require expertise beyond simply being a parts changer.
The difference in skill level between a traditional manual machinist compared to the skill level
of a current-day machine operator is night and day. DMS machinists possess the strong
mechanical aptitude that enables us to first survey a candidate for mechanical repair by
disassembling the unit.
We review with the customer to determine whether a repair would be economical. Frequently,
the process of mechanical repair requires machining: removing a broken shaft from a rock
crusher and machining the new replacement shaft; replacing a hub in an industrial blower fan
by machining out the old hub, turning a new hub, welding in place, and then dynamic balancing
the fan to simulate operating speed; realigning sheave trains for ski areas and machining
replacement hubs and pulleys; or machining new pug mill shafts to rebuild an asphalt mixing
pug mill.
The repair might include press work, submerged arc weld build-up, installing new gears, seals,
straightening parts, rebuilding bearing surfaces. Typically mechanical repairs are very time-
sensitive with a customer who needs it NOW.
